Business China marks 10th anniversary with three awards
THE Business China Awards (BCA) 2017 was held on Friday, in conjunction with the FutureChina Global Forum, at Shangri-La Hotel Singapore to commemorate Business China's 10th anniversary. The Ascott Ltd's CEO, Lee Chee Koon, was one of the three recipients of the awards.
He was accorded the Business China Young Achiever Award for Ascott's contributions to Singapore-China relations. The award was presented by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, who graced the occasion.
On receiving the award, Mr Lee said: "I am humbled and honoured to receive this year's Business China Young Achiever Award. Ascott started out in China in 1998 with our first serviced residence in Shanghai. Today, it is our fastest-growing market with more than 100 properties across 29 cities. Ascott has always been on the lookout for opportunities to work with Chinese firms."
Dr Chen played a major role in establishing the first connections between Singapore and China and has expanded the sphere of collaboration between the two countries. He also played a pivotal role in Singapore and China's first government-to-government project, Suzhou Industrial Park, and also championed the Singapore-China Free Trade Agreement.
The Lien Ying Chow Legacy Fellowship was incepted in 2007, administered by Nanyang Technological University, and has been committed to strengthening Singapore-China bilateral ties by bringing Lien fellows from both countries together through its high-level exchange programme. The fellowship empowers fellows to formulate and present recommendations on addressing policy and governance issues in China and Singapore.
The BCA 2017 judging panel comprised distinguished business leaders, respected academia and key media executives, and was helmed by Robin Hu, head of Temasek International and board director of Business China. Mr Hu was also the moderator for the dialogue with PM Lee.
The Business China Awards was established in 2010 to commemorate the 20th anniversary of Singapore-China bilateral ties, and to recognise and honour outstanding businessmen, entrepreneurs, professionals and enterprises.
